This Year's Speaker:
Jianine and her son & Luca (3)
Jianine will share the powerful story of her young son Luca’s battle with cancer. At just 18 months old, Luca was rushed to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) after blood was discovered in his diaper. Doctors quickly diagnosed him with a rare kidney cancer—clear cell sarcoma—and began an aggressive treatment plan. Following 12 weeks of chemotherapy and a successful surgery by Dr. James Stein to remove the tumor and Luca’s affected kidney, he is now cancer-free. In May 2024, Luca joyfully rang the bell to mark the end of his treatment. Now 3 years old and thriving, his journey is a testament to CHLA’s expert care and the life-changing impact of medical advances and hope.
