What is Stepping Out with the Stars?

Join us on April 14, 2023, as we host our 7th Annual Stepping Out With the Stars Gala. The event is centered around 5 community members who have committed to being dancers at the event; training with professional instructors to perform a dance routine at the event.  Our dancers compete to be crowned the best dancer and collect the most votes (donations) to support Turning Point. This event also includes a survivor speaker, dinner, premium open bar, a silent auction, raffles, and a wine pull.

Madeline Bialelecki

Madeline is a retired former Nonprofit executive.  As a survivor and a member of our Survivor's Speakers Bureau, she knows how important Turning Point's services are, and wants to help support the organization in any way she can.  Madeline loves to dance and considers dancing as part of her self-care; she calls it her great stress reliever.  Dancing for this event is a way to step out, claim her strength as a survivor, and shine a light on healing from domestic abuse and sexual assault.

Joshua Puranen

Joshua Puranen is a Real Estate Loan Originator at FreeStar Financial Credit Union.  A decade ago, Joshua lost a good friend that was in an abusive relationship.  He remembers her as one of the brightest, most unique people he had ever known and wants to make sure that resources, like those offered by Turning Point, are there to help people in similar situations.  He is dancing so he can help another bright and unique person out of that awful situation.

Erika Riggs

Attorney Erika A. Riggs is a partner and co-founder of the Disability Law Group.  She graduated from Wayne State University, earning her bachelor's and law degrees.  Erika is a current council member of the State Bar of Michigan Public outreach and Education Committee and Executive Committee member for All-Well Being Services where she enjoys strategizing new and creative ways to increase access to education and end the stigma surrounding mental health.  She has received numerous awards and recognition for her work and advocacy.  Erika conducted client intake at Turning Point as part of her very first legal experience while interning at Lakeshore Legal Aid. "I absolutely adored my time there. Being able to not only advocate for the survivors I met and their children – in drafting PPOs and helping with various legal matters – but also by providing a safe space for them is an experience I will always cherish."

Maggie Shively

Maggie is a Clinical Manager at Ascension Macomb Oakland.  As an RN, Maggie has spent her entire career in the emergency department where she sees domestic violence and sexual assault survivors regularly and knows the need for Turning Point's services.  She is dancing to support our mission and to show support for survivors outside of her workplace.
