The performing arts are closely aligned with PHS's mission and are a part of our school's rich tradition of fostering creativity and self-expression – core aspects of progressive education and our educational philosophy. Students learn more effectively when their knowledge and skills can be applied and expressed creatively. Drama helps students develop a variety of useful skills that can be applied within and beyond the classrooms, including:

  • Empathy and understanding new perspectives
  • Problem solving and decision making
  • Cooperation and social skills
  • Verbal and nonverbal communication
  • Self-expression and self-confidence
  • Sensory awareness

The theater is our school’s main gathering place. Our students and teachers use it for music class, after school enrichment classes, weekly assemblies, performances, and presentations by guest speakers. Our community as a whole attends events in the theater including all-school meetings and Grandparents and Special Friends Day. And it’s the first space our prospective parents see when they come for a tour or attend an informational session. It is a truly “multipurpose” space on our campus and it needs some TLC.

The "Staging Success" Fund-a-Need supports both place and program allowing us to grow our performing arts offerings while also updating and upgrading our facilities to benefit our current and future curriculum, and all of our community members. Funds raised will provide drama and improv workshops for our students. They they also allow us to update the theater with inviting colors, thoughtful storage, functional seating, and upgraded lighting and sound.
