METCO's 60th Anniversary background

The Opportunity Ball

A Future of Possibility

Six decades of breaking barriers.

Join us for an elegant evening of dinner, dancing, and community celebration that highlights 60 years of grassroots-driven educational equity.

Since its founding in 1966, METCO has been a national model for voluntary school integration, expanding educational opportunities, increasing diversity, and reducing racial isolation in suburban public schools.

This fundraiser will support the next chapter of the METCO program, raising critical resources to expand academic, socio‑emotional, community, connectivity, and alumni initiatives.

Celebrate and support.

Proceeds from the Opportunity Ball will fuel programs that help METCO students reach their full potential:

  • College scholarships

  • Career exposure, mentorships, internships

  • SAT prep and college-readiness classes

  • Summer School to cultivate competitive scholars

These vital programs give METCO students the tools, opportunities, and confidence to thrive both in school and beyond.

SPECIAL GUEST

Meet METCO Inc.'s new leader.

A third-generation METCO student whose grandfather helped lay the groundwork for METCO’s founding through Project Exodus, Kandice Sumner, Ph.D. carries forward a legacy that has shaped her life and leadership. Throughout her career Kandice has advanced equity-driven practices across Greater Boston. Today, as METCO celebrates 60 years, Kandice represents both the history and the future of our mission and we’re thrilled for our community to meet her and join us in this new chapter.
