Charlie Russell's Legacy Exhibition and Sale
As part of Charlie Russell’s Legacy: Celebrating 100 Years, we’re bringing together approximately 75 works by invited artists who share a connection to the C.M. Russell Museum. The exhibition features artists from the Russell Skull Society, past C.M. Russell Art Award winners, and artists who have previously participated in Art in Action.
This is not a juried exhibition.
Each work will be on display at the C.M. Russell Museum and available for purchase through an online timed auction. Whether you’re joining us in Great Falls for the Legacy Celebration or participating from home, everyone is welcome to register and bid.
The auction closes at 4 p.m. MST on Saturday, October 10, 2026. With so many incredible works to choose from, we encourage you to register early, start browsing, and keep an eye on your favorites. You can also set a maximum bid and let the system do the watching for you!
How to Bid
1. Register
Click the “Sign Up” button above and register using your mobile number or email address.
2. Confirm your registration
Enter the confirmation code sent to you by text or email. We recommend turning on notifications so you’ll know if you’ve been outbid, when the auction is nearing its close, and when other important auction announcements are made.
3. Choose your payment method
A credit card is required to register. When the auction closes, you may choose to pay by cash, check, or credit card.
4. Start exploring!
Browse the artwork and find the pieces you love.
- Ready to bid? Click the “Bid/Info” button on any artwork to place your bid.
- Want to make sure you don’t miss out? Enter a “Max Bid” and the system will automatically bid on your behalf, up to the maximum amount you choose.
- Just browsing for now? Click the heart icon on any artwork you love. Your selections will automatically appear in your “Watching” section in the menu, making it easy to find your favorites later.

Bidding Procedures and Terms
- Your bidding on items indicates your acceptance of the terms and conditions set forth in these bidding procedures.
- Bidders need not be present to participate.
- All pieces of art are offered "as is."
- The museum reserves the right to reject a bid.
- Bidding ends at 4 pm (MDT) on Saturday, October 10, 2026.
- The purchase price shall be the sum of the winning bid plus a buyer's premium of 12% of the winning bid. An additional 3.63% fee of the total purchase price will be added for credit card purchases.
- Terms of purchase will be cash, check, cashier's check, or credit card (MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express).
- At the conclusion of the auction, winning bidders will be sent check-out information. Bidders can complete their purchase with a credit card on the bidding platform or email knichols@cmrussell.org to arrange another payment. Winning bidders have until 5 pm on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, to arrange payment or the credit card on file will be charged.
- All sales are final, and there will be no exchanges or refunds on art pieces.
- Successful bidders must take custody or arrange for shipping of their purchases (at the bidder's expense) with museum staff by 5 pm on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
- The C.M. Russell Museum is an agent for the owner of the art pieces. The museum assumes no risk, liability, or responsibility for the authenticity or the authorship of any art pieces.
- The museum reserves the right to withdraw any art piece at any time before the sale.
