About the Open Your Heart Gala

On Saturday, November 7, 2020, Hunkapi Programs will host is annual and now virtual Open Your Heart Gala! The annual gala brings leaders and community members together to support the programs for those in Arizona who need them most. Proceeds from the gala provide significant funding to aid in our mission of teaching the world to fear less and love more. We need your support to help sustain and expand this work and continue providing our community with life-changing services. As our most significant fundraiser of the year, the Open Your Heart Gala raises a significant portion of our annual operating budget and allows our team to continue empowering, inspiring, and changing lives through our therapeutic equine programs.

About Hunkapi Programs, Inc.

In the late 1990s, research done at Arizona State University demonstrated that horseback riding had a positive effect on children with AD/HD and autism. The children showed greater self-esteem, reduced depression, and reduced anxiety, among other improvements. This led to the development of a therapeutic riding program at ASU known as Hunkapi, which later became an independent nonprofit organization in sun-drenched Scottsdale. Today Hunkapi offers Therapeutic Riding, Emotional Regulation, Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, and other services for both children and adults. These programs are led by a staff of Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH)-certified Instructors, therapists, and teams of experienced volunteers. Hunkapi continues to lead the industry by offering integrative, unique, and expansive holistic programs to the clients we serve.

What they say about work on a farm is true: it never stops! We rely on the support of community members, like you, to keep Hunkapi Programs operating. Donations primarily go to support programming needs, the care of our herd, and ongoing farm repairs. 

Hunkapi Programs qualifies for the Arizona Tax Credit for Qualifying Charitable Organizations, designed to help you reduce your state tax liability and help local children at the same time. This tax credit allows for donations made to Hunkapi Programs to be refunded to the taxpayer not as a deductible but as a dollar-for-dollar tax credit, up to $400 for single taxpayers and $800 for married taxpayers filing jointly. Simply put, this means that you are "loaning" Hunkapi your donation amount and that the next time you file your taxes, the amount of your donation will be added to your tax refund. It does not cost you a dime to donate!
