On June 8th, we’ll host Huddy’s Hike at Harriet Island. We loved to take Hudson hiking and we’d love to get as many people as possible together to honor Hudson. If you’ve been impacted by our story in any way, please come to the hike. Please donate in Hudson’s honor and help us and families like ours get answers. We know nothing will ever bring our boy back, but we’re determined to make a difference for Hudson.

Hudson's Story

Just over a year ago, on the night of Jan. 7th 2024, we put our perfectly healthy 1.5 year old little boy to sleep, only to find him non-responsive in the middle of the night. After a thorough autopsy, doctors couldn’t find anything wrong with Hudson. They didn't find a single virus in his system and have no explanation for his death. Even after doing in-depth genetic testing, we still have no answers. His death is now classified as Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC).

Hudson was the sweetest, happiest little boy who brought his family so much joy. He loved the outdoors, dancing with mom and dad and eating just about everything! Hudson was thrilled he was about to be a big brother and our hearts will forever be shattered as we navigate life without him. But we are now the memory keepers of his beautiful life and we’ll do everything to keep his love and light alive. Won’t you please help us?

Learn More About SUDC

What is SUDC?

SUDC stands for Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood. Each year as many as 500 kids die suddenly and without explanation. There are at least 75 families here in Minnesota that have lost a child this way. Many of them will be honored at Huddy's Hike.

The SUDC Foundation is the only organization worldwide that exists to raise awareness, fund research and offer support and outreach to families who've lost a child this way. Our family has found an immense amount of support in this organization and the families we've met through here.

SUDC Facts:

  • Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC) is a category of death for a child 12 months of age or older that remains unexplained after a thorough case investigation, including the performance of a complete autopsy, examination of the death scene, and clinical history review.
  • Most often, a seemingly healthy child goes to sleep and never wakes up.

  • At this time, we do not know what causes SUDC, how to predict it or how to prevent it.

  • A medical examiner or coroner could rule a child’s death SUDC when s/he completes a thorough evaluation and finds no other cause of death.

  • SUDC is considered the 5th leading category of death in kids ages 1-4, and yet very few people have heard of it.
  • SUDC receive no public funding and relies heavily on families like ours to raise funds.
