Our Mission & Values

Our Mission & Values

Friends School of Wilmington is a preschool-8th grade independent school rooted in Quaker values whose mission is to cultivate curious and compassionate lifelong learners who act with courage, integrity, and purpose in our greater world. Our educational mission is grounded in a sustained commitment to academic excellence and ethical character; a learning environment where students are equipped to lead lives guided by curiosity and kindness, wisdom and empathy. Starting in our Montessori preschool classrooms, we empower children to explore the world around them through creative, hands-on discovery. Our Lower and Middle School students develop as self-confident critical thinkers who solve problems with authenticity, adaptability, and collaboration. Our teachers and administrators are the best of the best, the majority of whom hold postgraduate degrees. Through an innovative, robust curriculum that draws upon experiential and service-learning principles, we help each child reach their highest individual potential.

The What, How & Why

  • We believe in a learning environment grounded in Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality, and Stewardship. These “SPICES” provide a set of shared values and a common set of expectations for everyone at FSW. We strive to cultivate a diverse community of belonging where everyone is known, respected, and valued for their most authentic selves.
  • We integrate experiential processes, evidence-based practices, blended methodologies, and differentiated instruction to cultivate a vibrant learning environment across all ages and grade levels.
  • We combine core subjects with enrichment programming, service-learning partnerships, environmental education, social-emotional learning, and DEI projects to nurture the whole child.
  • We deliver a dynamic academic program in sync with a global landscape that keeps students interested, active, and engaged. Students are actively involved in the learning process so that they feel ownership in navigating the curriculum with confidence and curiosity.
  • We inspire our students to think critically, problem solve creatively, and apply lessons with nuance and care for the world around them.

A joy to seek knowledge, a drive to lead courageously, and a love to build community — This is Friends School of Wilmington.

About the Virtual Auction

About the Virtual Auction

There’s something for everyone (and we mean everyone) in this year’s Annual Virtual Auction—from hands-on learning experiences and family outings to date nights, and self-care.

We’re grateful to partner with local businesses and organizations that share in our values, helping to cultivate the same sense of community, purpose, and joy that we foster here at Friends. Whether you're looking for a unique experience, a special gift, or just a fun night out, every dollar raised goes directly to our Annual Fund—the school’s largest financial lifeline that bridges the gap between tuition and the actual cost of an FSW education.

This year, our Annual Fund goal is $100,000, and we’re aiming to raise $30,000+ this month through the auction. Every bid brings us closer to that milestone, ensuring we can continue providing the learning opportunities that make FSW so special.

✨ Looking for something hands-on? Learn to play guitar, go beachcombing and create an art project with found beach treasures, have a family screen-free game night, or let your little one learn through play with a month of classes at Kindermusik with Sarah.

Planning a night out? Treat yourself to a romantic dinner at Origins, tickets to a game, or a one-night stay at a downtown Wilmington AirBnB!

💆‍♀️ Need a little self-care? Treat yourself to an intuitive energy healing session, retail therapy at Lumina Gems or Dust+Sunshine, or thrifting with FSW's preschool teacher, Mariya!

No matter what you bid on, you are helping to strengthen our school community and the transformative learning experiences we provide. Thank you for being part of it!
