Dave was a professional illustrator who took a clay class that turned into a 50-year relationship with the Duluth Art Institute. He began as a renting artist at the Lincoln Park Building, then clay instructor, started the Empty Bowl Fundraiser for the Northern Harvest Food Shelf, and was the longest running Clay Studio manager.  He was one of the first clay artists at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival/Fair and was a long-time participant at the fair.  The Tweed Museum of Art recognized his work as a ceramic artist with a retrospective exhibition and book in 2008.  The book includes pictures of his work and many of his illustrations.  His work is in both public and private collections throughout the United States.
