Bob Danhieux Douglas, a longtime supporter of the Donkey Mill and a dedicated printmaker, creates artwork deeply informed by music, movement, and material exploration. Raised in Belgium and trained across architecture, engineering, and the sciences, Douglas ultimately found his artistic voice through printmaking, photography, and abstract works, using music as a key source of inspiration for rhythm, structure, and flow in his work. A committed mokuhanga printmaker who studied with Hiroki Morinoue, Douglas brings decades of curiosity, resilience, and generosity to his creative life and to the Mill community, honoring both process and place through his work.

“Art makes the world bearable.” Artist and educator Gerald Lucena spent a nine-month Creative Sabbatical through the Donkey Mill developing a new body of work, Fractured Eden. Guided by mentor, collaborator, and accountability partner Hiroki Morinoue, Lucena explored his family history, stitching together fragments of story, the unknown, and moments of childhood joy to form a narrative of his own. Returning fully to his practice, Lucena works from the belief that art and life are inseparable, inviting viewers to slow down, observe closely, and uncover layered meaning while encouraging others to make, reflect, and reconnect through their own creative processes.
