Dwight Mackintosh joined Creative Growth in 1979, when he was in his seventies, and made drawings, paintings, prints, and ceramic work until his death in 1999. His subject matter is often personal, illustrating objects and events from his life, including his experience being institutionalized. Mackintosh’s artwork is held in the highest regard among collectors of self-taught, outsider, and contemporary art and is part of the permanent collections of Studio Museum Harlem, American Folk Art Museum, New York; MADmusée, Liège, Belgium; and Collection de l’Art Brut, Lausanne, Switzerland. His work has been exhibited at Fraenkel Gallery, San Francisco; Gavin’s Brown enterprise, New York; Outsider Art Fair, New York and Rena Bransten Gallery, San Francisco.
