Classic Southern Quail Hunting Experience

Start your morning with the kind of quail hunt folks talk about for years—well-trained bird dogs, fast-flushing Bobwhites, and the sweet sound of shotgun fire echoing through the pines. This guided hunt is for two people and includes up to 20 birds at the beautiful and historic Thornhill Shooting Preserve in Jayess, Mississippi.
You’ll be in good hands with Wayne Thornhill and his sharp, hard-working team of German Shorthair Pointers, English Setters, Brittany Spaniels, and Golden Retrievers—dogs that live for this kind of day.
We’ll kick things off with a big country breakfast at Vine’s Smokehouse in McComb to fuel up, then head out for a fun morning in the field. After the hunt, we’ll swap stories and laughs over a laid-back, all-you-can-eat lunch at the famous Dinner Bell Restaurant, spinning dishes around their giant Lazy Susan table like you’re right at home.
On the way back, you’ve got a couple of great optional stops: swing by the Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash memorial near Gillsburg, or check out Our Lady of Hope Retreat Center in Chatawa, a peaceful spot founded by Fr. Mark Beard. Both are just a few minutes off I-55 and worth the detour.
It’s going to be a day full of good shooting, good food, and even better memories. Got someone new to bird hunting in your group? Dana Vutera will accompany you as their personal coach and make sure they have a great first outing.
