It depicts yachts in the waning light of evening on Carters Creek, off the Rappahannock River. On the far shore is the famed Tides Inn, founded in 1947.  Barber has spent his life as an artist documenting endangered areas and vanishing traditions. As a young man in the 1960s, he became aware of grave environmental threats to the Chesapeake Bay estuary, and he has devoted his career and immense artistic talent to call attention to those dangers.
