About the Artist: Born in Kanagawa, Japan, Setsuko Watanabe Morinoue’s interest in the arts began with photography and transformed into a love for the fiber arts, natural dyes, mixed media painting, printmaking and ceramics. She carries a visionary spirit and is one of the founding members of Hōlualoa Foundation for Arts and Culture which established the Donkey Mill Art Center.
Morinoue’s piece is inspired by the popular poem Dotei, by sculptor, painter and poet, Kotaro Takamura (1883-1956).
“I interpreted and visualized this poem to my way of understanding when I make my decisions with good, reasonable and sustainable life-values in mind. It is the way of living with beautiful harmony. It is the season of a soul searching. Together, we will create a solid road behind us. This is a journey we will walk together to find harmonious living.” - Setsuko Morinoue
