This cast glass sculpture honors the contribution of artist Madeline Tourtelot to Door County and Peninsula School of Art.
Trenchard, known for her work based on women artists throughout history, has created a cast glass sculpture in the form of a camera with an image of Tourtelot suspended in solid glass. The imagery on the back side of the piece shows a map of Door County as well as the Peninsula School of Art logo. This piece is reverential to the history of the school by recognizing the founder, Madeline Tourtelot, who was a significant contributor to Chicago's art scene and avant-garde filmmaking in the 1950s and 1960s. In addition to her visual art practice, Tourtelot founded three art institutions: the Ephraim Art School (1943), the Gallery Studio in Chicago's North Michigan Avenue arts district (1950s), and the Door Harbor School of Art (1965), now known as the Peninsula School of Art, where she was the school's director until 1971. Tourtelot donated part of her land, including two barns, to Peninsula Art Association in 1978. The school's archives include some of Tourtelot's original films and art works.
