A vigorous dioecious species that blooms with white star-shaped flowers in spring. If you have a female and it is pollinated, then the seed heads will have an attractive feathery appearance from which its other common name, Old Man's Beard is derived. Grows in sun or shade but like most Clematis, it prefers its roots to be located in a cool spot. Climbs by curling its leaf petioles around its support.
