The establishment of The Misquamicut Golf Club, as it was then known, in July, 1895, marked the early maturity of Watch Hill as a full-fledged summer resort. A hotel resort for the previous half-century, Watch Hill’s development as a cottage colony had begun in earnest less than ten years earlier, and already some fifty cottages dotted its hilly, boulder-strewn and largely treeless landscape. In 1922 the club’s new Donald Ross 18 hole golf course was established.
