From the painter, Russell Hurlburt: "Tangerine escape - I've learned that grief is unique to each of us, as well as the seasons of grief. For some people it takes many years to get over the loss of their loved ones. It takes on many dimensions for me, particularly after the loss of both my parents, I began thinking of my favorite things.
As a child, if someone asked me my favorite color, I wouldn't say orange, I would say tangerine because my mother always fed me tangerines. And so, as I was reminiscing filtering through my grief, tangerine was the color I was drawn to bring to the canvas. This piece was so therapeutic through my grief, as I remembered, all of the aspects of my childhood and my loving parents, and after a few weeks when the painting was finished, I knew that it was a tangerine escape that saved my grief."
