Mediums used: plastic cups, acrylic gloss enamel paint

What was the inspirations for your piece or how did you come up with the collaborative project?

Dale Chihuly, an American artist, draws inspiration from the world around him. Our little ones love to discover and explore things in nature.

What did your students enjoy most about the experience?

The students enjoyed painting the cups because it was something different than paper. The students also liked all the different colors they could choose from to paint.

Did you have any challenges or obstacles your class had to overcome during the process? What solutions did your students come up with? What did your students learn?

A challenge we had was trying to get all the students to paint a cup. We managed to get them to paint when they were in a good mood and interested in what we were doing. Another challenge was how to paint all the way around the cup. Students learned that if they put their hand inside the cup, they could turn it and paint all around. Problem solving and fine motor skills.

Any quotes from your students?

“I am like Dale Chihuly!” “He makes pretty things [out of glass].” “It’s like his bowl (the stripes).”

Any other points of interest you would like to offer:

This art project shows that children of all ages and capabilities can participate in art. The outcome is absolutely beautiful.
