Anchorage Cup Offshore Sailboat Race Experience for 2 with Velo Kids Coach Jen Jones and Bill Hoyer.
Experience: Up to two guests, as there will already be a full crew on board, and a lighter boat is a winning boat. This is a World Class Grand Prix Racing yacht with a crew of 12-13. This yacht was just runner up in her class at Cork Week in Ireland. The Anchorage Cup is an offshore race from Grand Haven to Holland.
Date: September 7, 2024. Depart dock at 9am and return to dock no later than 6pm.
Location: Torresen Marina (3106 Lakeshore, Slip #52, Muskegon, MI)
Details: Lake Michigan is unpredictable and this boat sails regardless of conditions. There could be up to six foot seas depending on weather that day. Conditions can be rough, and this crew sails to win, so that said it can be super fun for the adventure seeker, or could be light air and be slow and easy. Fair warning the last winner of this auction demanded to be dropped off in Holland, and vowed to never sail again (haha!).
Survival vests will be provided, and while not mandatory, they’re recommended. We will also have foul weather gear for each guest as needed.
It will be cooler on the lake than on land, so dress accordingly. Wear non-marking, closed toe shoes as there will be lines and winches that you could stub your toes on otherwise. If you are prone to motion sickness, it is advised that you take Dramamine or the like, 30 minutes prior to dock call.
One person can stand behind the captain and tactician and hear and see what happens there, and the other can join the crew on the rail, meaning hanging off the side of the boat as counter weight, this person should be agile enough to crawl under the boom moving side to side as the boat turns/tacking and jibing. Be prepared to get your feet a little wet in the case that you are on the rail with crew.
This crew and the boat are a “quiet” and dry boat, meaning they are pretty serious about their sport and keep the alcohol for after, and their voices light when being social, but when referring to managing the boat will be quite vocal and can be a bit hectic, but the crew will make sure to keep you safe at all times, and give you clear instructions as to what is happening as their able to do so.
Sandwiches, snacks, and water are provided on the boat.
If you are female or identify as female, you will be briefed on the very open/public head, and the use and instructions for the marine head (toilet). If male, please make use of Lake Michigan off the back of the boat.
After the race we will have a light dinner, libations, and water available if you’d like to stick around to chat more with our crew.
