As the leader of Cincinnati’s Big Red Machine of the 1970s, in which he helped the franchise to four National League pennants and two World Series titles. Notably one of the greatest catchers of all time, Johnny Bench was a 10-time Gold Glove Award winner. He had unparalleled defensive skills and a lightning quick throwing arm that would intimidate would-be base runners. Bench was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1989.
