Silent Auction
Closed
$2,000
Starting Bid: $400

Maximum 8 attendees.

This Eco-Tour will be similar to the format we offer to classes of primary school-aged kids in our “Gently Down the Seymour” program we’ve been running for approximately 20 years, and it will include a catered lunch.

Location

Salmon Hatchery, located on the Seymour River in a restricted access area within the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve on the North Shore of Lower mainland, immediately down-river of the Seymour Dam (approximately 11 km North of Rice Lake Gate).

Available Dates for the Eco-Tour:

A Saturday or Sunday on one of the following dates in the Fall of 2023:  Sept 30, Oct 1, Oct 7, Oct 8, Oct 14, Oct 15, Oct 21, Oct 22, Oct 28, or Oct 29.

Notice for Confirming Eco-Tour date: One week's notice is required to book the Eco-Tour (from the date options listed above).

Description of Tour:

The tour of the hatchery will include a catered lunch and participants will engage in three main activities:

  1. Tour of hatchery operations including viewing adult and juvenile salmon on site,
  2. Completing a “hands-on” stream survey, including taking various measurements in the stream, to determine the suitability of the stream for salmon habitat
  3. Completing a “hands-on” Invertebrate (bugs) survey to examine the food that salmon eat while living in Seymour's tributaries and determine stream quality based on their presence or absence.

Considerations:

  • Clothing:  The hatchery site is remote and participants will want to bring clothing which is appropriate for the weather forecast for the day
  • The washroom facilities are pit toilets (they are clean and maintained by Metro Vancouver)
  • Minors must be accompanied by an adult

An admin fee will be added to winning bids.
