Dinner for 8 with Annie Liang-Zhou at Chai Restaurant
Your exclusive chance to have dinner with Annie Liang-Zhou, descendent of one of the most renowned Chinese families.
The Liang family has had a significant impact on modern Chinese history. Annie's great-grandfather, Liang Qichao, was a Chinese politician, social and political activist, journalist, and intellectual. His thought had a significant influence on the political reformation of modern China. He inspired Chinese scholars and activists with his writings and reform movements.
Annie's grandparents are the architect Liang Sicheng and his architect and poet wife, Lin Huiyin. Liang Sicheng was known as the father of modern Chinese architecture. His younger brother, Liang Siyong, was one of China's first archaeologists.
Liang Sicheng and Lin Huiyin are now revered in much the same way as Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo in Mexico, were part of a new generation of Western-educated thinkers who came of age in the 1920s.
Liang Qichao's work in political thought, philosophy, and education, Liang Sicheng's work in establishing the discipline of Chinese architecture and documenting architectural history, and Liang Congjie's pioneering work in environmental protection and activism have cemented the Liang family's place in modern Chinese history.
Annie Liang-Zhou, the 5th generation descendant of Liang Qichao, will speak about her family's impact on China, as well as provide a signed copy of her great-grandfather's book, Chinese Architecture: Art and Artifacts (Bilingual).
