Tour the Canaan Valley and surrounding area in a beautifully restored, 1943 Howard DGA-15P aircraft. The 1 hour flight will take off and land from the Windwood fly-in resort at a time to be determined by the winning bidder and the owner/pilot. Bring your camera!
The Howard DGA-15P originated as a business liner in the late 1930s and was produced in Chicago by the Howard Aircraft Corporation from 1939 to 1944. After the United States' entry into World War II, it was built in large numbers for the United States Navy and also served various roles in the United States Army Air Forces. This particular Howard was an ambulance for the US Navy and was based at Marine Corps Air Station El Centro in California. It was sold into the private sector in the mid 1950's and spent the majority of its life in southern California until 2003, when the current owners, Matt and Candi Taylor, bought it and completed its restoration. The aircraft is now based in Annapolis, Maryland.
Matt, a retired Marine Corps F/A-18 and F-35 test pilot, is now a test pilot in the private sector. He also instructs flight test students in the Howard under contract for US Naval Test Pilot School at Naval Air Station Patuxent River in Maryland.
