Merryll Saylan lives and maintains a studio in Berkeley, California. Educated with a BA in Design from University of California, Los Angeles and an MA in Art from California State University Northridge, Saylan is known as a leader in the use of color and texture on wood and a valued authority in wood turning method. She was a Visiting Artist and taught at California College of the Arts in San Francisco. In 2009, she received the American Association of Woodturners Professional Outreach Program Merit Award. Saylan’s work has been exhibited in many museums and galleries, including the Museum of Art & Design, New York; the Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.; and the Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven.
