Across the globe, demand for wood is rapidly depleting forests that support vulnerable species. In Mexico, deforestation in the monarch butterfly’s home ruins the insulating effects of the forest in winter. In Uganda, the mountain gorilla’s habitat is shrinking away. Nearly 3 billion people around the globe cook on open fires inside their homes. Many children suffer burns from open flames and hot coals. Diseases caused by breathing smoke make indoor cooking fires the leading cause of death in the developing world, especially for women and children.

For communities all over the world, a stove is more than just a means of cooking. It’s a place where recipes are passed down, where families gather to cook dinner and share stories. But for millions, a cooking fire in their home is also a constant health threat. Our safe, fuel-efficient stoves create a center in the house where families can cook together rain or shine.

The Patsari is our culturally appropriate solution to protecting both community health and the monarch. The Patsari eliminates 90% of smoke from homes and uses 60% less firewood. The flat surfaces are ideal for cooking tortillas and traditional meals, and the brick exteriors make them permanent and safe for children.
