To further uplift our community connections and celebrate our talented local artists, this year we have partnered with Oʻahu based artist, Mark “Devour” Visaya. Mark created the piece titled “Unity” specifically for this year’s event. As Mark explains, “The inspiration for this piece was to convey the feeling of dedication and strength that communities express through difficult times and how by working together we can overcome any obstacle.”
About the Artist:
Mark Visaya is an illustrator, muralist, designer, and paint pusher from Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi. Mark’s work originates from his childhood as a graffiti artist, and he continues to incorporate the lessons he learned into his current work to produce unique pieces of art. Gaining inspiration from his environment, different cultures, and communities, Mark continues to twist and bend the norm, which is reflected in his current interest in abstract and modern art. Mark is one of the many featured local artists in the exhibit “POW! WOW! The First Decade: From Hawai‘i to the World,” at Bishop Museum May 15, 2021 – September 19, 202.
