Artist Bio: Crystal D’Abbraccio is a mosaic artist that finds great pleasure in teaching mosaics to diverse learners of all ages. She enjoys creating and instructing others how to use mosaics as a way to inspire and spread joy to communities everywhere. Furthermore, she believes that mosaic art can also encourage healing from trauma, illness and loss. In many ways, the process of creating a mosaic can be used as a healing approach to personal growth and self reflection. She is a professionally trained mosaic muralist that enjoys sharing her love for the process to others in studios all around New England. The last mosaic mural Crystal contributed to was created during a week-long workshop led by Laurel True. “Portal” can be seen in Hacienda Mosaico in Puerto Vallarta Mexico.

When living in St. John, Crystal taught art classes at Gifft Hill School and worked with diverse students to create Mosaic masterpieces of their own. In addition to this, her Mosaic Studio “Tiny Tile Mosaics” would annually donate time, supplies and tiles to create student made flower pots to auction off at annual fundraising events. A number of days were also spent beautifying the Bellevue community gardens through SJCF with stepping stones, garden rocks and mosaic wind chimes.

Crystal’s latest community endeavor was the creation of The Mosaic Love Rock project. This project was brought about during a social distancing nature hike in mid March. She noticed a lot more people going outside and using the trails to help ground and reconnect with nature. That weekend, her family worked together to produce the first round of a dozen Love Rocks. The sole purpose of the rocks is to bring some joy and happiness to others through mosaic art. This project quickly took off and was featured on a local TV show called Chronicle. Since then thousands of finished love rock and mosaic kits have been spread throughout North America and the Caribbean.

Artist Statement: My mosaic projects are inspired by my spirituality through nature. My work is an organic process that flows and lives with the creation of the piece I am working on. Although there has to be an overall vision and plan, the creative process often ebbs and flows like a river and the new paths usually have wonderful and unexpected results.
