The Spirit of the Child Alliance was founded to give the gift of Montessori education; to provide scholarships for the students of The Montessori School Rochester, The MSR. Approximately 25% of the students at The MSR receive some form of financial assistance, thanks to you and our Community Partners, we can offer this support to more families.
You Make It Happen
In support of the Alliance, each year we host a Gala (May 2023) and a Golf Outing on September 17, 2023, the proceeds from which provide scholarships and enrichment opportunities for children in our community. Because of your generosity and support, in 2022, we were able to almost double the number of students benefitted. For 10 years, The MSR provided these scholarships independently. With your support, we hope to raise $100,000+ in scholarship awards for the 2023-2024 school year.

The Montessori School Rochester is an authentic Montessori school in Rochester Hills, Michigan. We offer an alternative child-centered educational program for elementary and middle school students as well as a Children's House for infants, toddlers, pre-schoolers and kindergarteners.
In the Fall of 2023, we will be opening our second campus in Pontiac, MI. With the opening of this campus, we anticipate that the number of students needing the scholarship fund will increase significantly. The socio-economic impact on education and development causes many disparities in opportunities for the children living within this particular community. The MSR is dedicated to providing an alternative in education for these families and those in neighboring communities.
Our Community
Our students participate in Project-Based Learning and experience the applied purpose of math, science, humanities, and language in their projects which culminates in a vibrant, student-led micro economy. Engineering, growth, harvest, sales and marketing, public speaking and budgeting are all natural areas of work for each student to contribute to. Project-Based Learning challenges students’ growing imagination, accelerating academic progress while offering opportunities for social growth.
Change Makers of the Future
Across the curriculum, students partake in group-presentations to debate, defend, share, assert, converse, and challenge presented content. The expectation is to “collaborate; don’t separate.” Students practice acceptance and equity, sharing responsibility and accountability. Our ethnically diverse population of students and staff represents cultures from every continent. Our commitment to equity, diversity, individuality, and humanity grows ever deeper as we watch our students arise into their potential and prepare to become change makers in the future.
We are Inclusive and Diverse
Our mixed-age classrooms are comprised of beautifully diverse and divergent learners. Autism, ADHD/ADD, Down Syndrome, Cognitive Impairment, Gifted, Neurotypical, etc., all of whom are welcome and have equal opportunities and quality of education. Classrooms are like a quilt, a patchwork of beautiful individual contributions that, together, create a thriving community that exceeds state academic standards.
