About Us

Salt Lake County Animal Services is the largest life-saving municipal shelter in Utah. We offer a variety of programming to the community to maintain a healthy pet population. Through outreach programs and in-house services, we serve over 14,000 pets a year.

Salt Lake County Animal Services relies upon the support of individuals, corporations, and foundations to help us educate and sustain a healthy pet community for the 600,000+ citizens we serve annually.

Fund-A-Need

Raise your paddle and improve the life of an owned pet! Help us raise $100,000 to sustain our low-income spay/neuters for the 1200+ pets sterilized in our clinic each year. By spaying/neutering a pet, we prevent hundreds of homeless animals from entering the shelter.

Our Fund-A-Need is a direct line to funding our Pet Retention Project, TNR, ACO Cares, and Free Feline Fix Programs!

Free Feline Fix & TNR: Over 450 cats in 2023 will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped for free at the Free Feline Fix. An additional 1300 TNR/Community Cats will be sterilized, preventing hundreds of kittens from entering the shelter.

ACO Cares: The ACO CARES program helps Animal Control Officers provide assistance to those in need. In 2023 over 250 dogs and cats will receive low-cost or free spay/neuters and vaccinations from our clinic as a way to help deter pets from escaping in the future.

Pet Retention Project & More: The Pet Retention Project and other low-cost (or free) spay/neuter events, help individuals in the community who want to get their pet sterilized but can't afford paying full cost. In 2023, nearly 1,000 pets (& owners) will benefit from these programs.

*(This does not include the sterilization costs for the thousands of pets we adopt out yearly.)
