Home of the first Swedish settlement in the state of Minnesota, Scandia is rich in history. Tucked into our forests - and displayed on fields of agriculture - you'll find historic homes ranging from Swedish settler's cabins -- to brick farmhouses -- to cozy cottages overlooking the St. Croix River and local lakes. This is not your big-city luxury home tour - but rather a glimpse back in time to a simpler life in rural Minnesota.

Take a break and enjoy the "hygge" lifestyle in quaint Scandia. The tour includes 11 private homes and cabins -- including traditional brick as well as classic wood-clad farmhouses; a remodeled farmhouse and barn overlooking Big Marine Lake; two recently renovated hand-hewn log cabins with dovetail corners built by early Swedish settlers; a river cottage in historic Otisville (an area popular with St. Paul families in the early 20th century); and a 1970s prairie house overlooking the St. Croix River designed by Stillwater architect Michael McGuire. The tour also features the Erickson Log House (on the National Register of Historic Places) owned by Washington County Historical Society, as well as the historic log church at Gammelgården Museum. The Gammelgården Butik (gift shop) will be open for the day.

Your tour ticket includes a picnic lunch at your leisure between 11:30 and 1:30. This is a self-drive tour, and you will be provided with a map, addresses, and home descriptions at registration. The official tour starts at 10am, and registration opens at 9am at the Scandia Community Center with coffee and treats. Gammelgården Museum across the street will open at 9:15 to welcome guests who would like to visit the historic log church and gift shop before the official tour begins.

This event is Scandia Heritage Alliance's annual fall fundraiser. Tickets are $50 and include lunch. Your ticket and silent auction purchases support our programs to preserve and celebrate Scandia's rich history, culture, arts and rural character.
