About Our Event
We’ve come a long way since December of 1971, thanks in large part to our many community partners throughout the past 50 years.
This virtual celebration will feature interviews from people past and present to reflect on the impact of ServiceSource Virginia in our community. The event will also feature an interactive, live auction and donor appeal to support our fundraising campaign to complete renovations to the Ellmore Farmhouse located on the grounds at Frying Pan Farm Park in Herndon, VA. Once renovations are complete, Ellmore Farmhouse will be ServiceSource’s 10th Long-Term Community Integration Services (LTCIS) program in Northern Virginia.
Historical Snapshot
ServiceSource Virginia started in December of 1971 as Fairfax Opportunities Unlimited (FOU), a non-profit established by a group of parents who banded together to create an agency dedicated to providing employment support for their adult children with disabilities. FOU as it soon became known, flourished and grew to serve hundreds of individuals in the Fairfax County community.
By the early 1980’s, FOU had secured its first of many Federal service contracts directly employing individuals in meaningful and valued employment in Washington DC and the surrounding metro area.
In the mid-1990’s, FOU had grown beyond the borders of Fairfax County and the Washington metro area, which facilitated the name change to ServiceSource, Inc. in 1996. Since that time, ServiceSource has grown in both size and scope of services and geographic area. Five other non-profit agencies affiliated, which ultimately strengthened the organization and allowed us to expand services to reach more people.
Collectively, the ServiceSource network of affiliated agencies serves nearly 30,000 individuals nationwide, directly employs more than 1,500 people with disabilities and helps an additional 1,500 individuals secure employment with third party employers. We provide housing supports, senior services, youth transition services, and customized employment, along with our robust Long-Term Community Integration Services programs.
