Our mission is to provide Title 1 students and youth-focused community groups in South Texas with free school supplies, access to books and grants.
BACK TO BASICS PROJECT:
Each year, SA YES selects numerous Title 1 elementary schools in San Antonio and supplies every student (kindergarten through 5th grade) with a free school supply kit. Since 1998, SA YES, CC YES and AUSTIN YES staff, volunteers, board members, and sponsors have personally distributed more than 450,000 school supply kits to students and community groups. Each school supply kit includes the following items: colored pencils, crayons, notebook paper, spiral notebook, big eraser, glue stick, folders with pockets, folders with pockets and brads, a ruler, pencils, ballpoint pens in black and red, and a box of tissues.
LITTLE LOCKER PROJECT:
In 2020, the Little Locker Project was established to help provided access to books and educational material to students, parents, and community members. Our first Little Locker was established in March 2020 in the Harlandale district and have since added four additional Little Lockers in Del Valle ISD, South San ISD, and Edgewood ISD. During the school year, the Little Lockers are filled with age appropriate books and materials to help students have access to reading and learning any day of the week. When school is not in session, outdoor activities such as sidewalk chalk and crafts are added to the Little Lockers to help students stay creative and outdoors.
SA YES provides grants to select schools and youth focused organizations for improving or providing access to technology, classroom equipment, and special projects. These grants are designed to generate and validate solutions to persistent educational challenges and to support and serve area youth.
