An eight-year cinematic journey with revealing interviews, archival photographs

and intimate home movies, Great Photo, Lovely Life: Facing a Family’s Secrets

documents a personal journey to not only uncover, but to understand the impact

her grandfather, a local chiropractor, had on her family after committing decades

of serial sexual abuse, and explores the complexities of the silence that followed.

Through her emotionally raw quest to expose the truth, Mustard’s investigation

reveals decades of secrecy and coverups rooted in shame and self-deception and

discovers the dysfunction lurking in her own family that eventually brings her to an

uncomfortable reckoning with her mother and a confrontation with her

grandfather. Finding the courage to dredge up painful memories, face her own

feelings about her grandfather, and to have heartbreaking but healing

conversations, Mustard explores the depth and breadth of her grandfather’s

actions, laying bare a path for the survivors to shed light on the abuse in order to

make sense of the past, find peace in the present, and empower them to move forward.

2024 Everyday Hero Awards

2024 NPCAC Community Partner

Everyday Hero Award

The NPCAC recognizes a community member/organization each year that demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to supporting the NPCAC’s mission and vision.  The “NPCAC Annual Community Partner Everyday Hero Award” awardees are people who have dedicated time, energy, and resources to making sure the NPCAC has what we need to not only operate on a daily basis, but to grow, to provide gold standard services to the families we serve, and to become a beacon in the community for survivors of child abuse and their family members. Without the passion and commitment of our community partners, we would not be able to fulfill our mission and vision.  These are the people who proudly operate quietly in the background to make sure that the NPCAC can shine.

Scheels - Minot

We are excited to announce that Scheels - Minot has been selected as the recipient of the 2024 Community Partner Everyday Hero Award from the Northern Plains Children's Advocacy Center (NPCAC). This prestigious award recognizes the incredible contributions of Scheels to our center, as well as their unwavering dedication to supporting the greater Minot community.

Scheels has demonstrated a profound commitment to our mission and the children and families we serve, providing both financial support and hands-on involvement in a variety of NPCAC initiatives. Their generosity and passion for community engagement have made a lasting impact, helping to ensure that children in need of services are met with care, compassion, and resources.

Beyond their contributions to NPCAC, Scheels has been a true community leader, working tirelessly to improve the lives of those around them. Their efforts in promoting safety, wellness, and community spirit have set a shining example of what it means to be a hero in everyday life.

We are deeply grateful for Scheels - Minot's partnership and honored to present them with this award as a token of our appreciation for all they do for our center and community. Congratulations, Scheels!

2024 NPCAC MDT Everyday

Hero Award Nominees

The NPCAC does not consist only of its staff.  Our Multi-Discipnary Team (MDT) is the heart of our center.  This award is to highlight MDT members that have gone above and beyond when working criminal child abuse cases. These team members exemplify the CAC model and mission as they respond to abused children and their families, striving to protect children by collaborating with other agencies and seeking out fellow MDT member expertise.  They advocate for this model to be utilized in investigations and assessments, while leading others who are learning in their field.

These team members understand the importance of working as part of a MDT to provide children who are abused and their families with all of the support, resources, and expertise that is available to them.  They actively participate and engage in the case review process each month to assure that cases are not falling through the cracks and to share their experience with other team members for stronger, more thorough cases.  Nominees have successfully used the MDT approach to bring healing and justice to children who have been victimized by sexual abuse and other crimes.  They understand, that left unresolved, the perpetrator will commit crimes against more children.  They participate and promote the CAC model knowing that in doing so, the child has the highest chance of regaining their childhood, while the offender is brought to justice.

Nominees are selected by fellow MDT members and colleagues.  We salute all MDT members which consist of Law Enforcement, Child Protective Services, Prosecution, Mental Health, Advocates, Medical Providers, and Forensic Interviewers.  All children deserve a team of heroes working for their case, and we are forever grateful for all they do.
