“I will say to all MYSO students that MYSO has your back! And I am forever grateful that they’ve had mine.”

- Abby, 2021 MYSO graduate

About MYSO

The Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra nurtures, challenges, and inspires young minds through music -- profoundly changing lives and our community for the better.

Our programs:

  • promote essential life skills – including critical thinking, teamwork, discipline, leadership, and collaboration – as well as musical skills.
  • yearly serve 900 musicians ages 8 to 18 and reach as many as 6,000 other youths though free outreach concerts.
  • bring music education to students who would not have access to it otherwise because of financial and other barriers.

MYSO is recognized around the world for artistic excellence and prudent governance. In 2015, we received a National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award -- the highest honor of its kind in the country for after-school youth arts education.

MYSO is committed to making its programs accessible and affordable for all qualified students. About 40% of our students receive financial aid for membership fees, instruments, private lessons, transportation and more. In 2022-23, we will spend up to $467,600 for financial aid.
