Help Us Support Kidney Patients!

Join The Kidney Foundation, BC & Yukon Branch, for an unforgettable night at the 13th annual Kidney Gala, where your ticket does more than entertain—it brings hope to kidney patients. Your support enables us to provide essential services to kidney patients, including financial assistance, travel support, and the opportunity to send amazing kids to Kidney Kids Camp.

Kidney patients can often "wear a mask" to hide their inner struggles. Join us as we “Drop the Mask” and hear their powerful stories of courage and resilience.

Dress to impress and enjoy a magical evening filled with a unique Silent Auction, Live Auction, Wine Wall, entertainment, and more—hosted by the dynamic duo Fred Lee and Sophie Lui.

Patient Stories...Sneak Peek

Join us this year to hear from a number of inspiring speakers...

Sophie's Story

Sophie was diagnosed with kidney disease at the age of 12.  Living in a small northern community and moving into her teenage years with a new diagnosis has presented her with some unique challenges and unexpected celebrations!

Sophie will share a little bit of her story, including some of the precautions she must take in order to navigate teenage life with kidney health in mind - from school, to hanging out with friends, to competitive dirt bike racing!

Carmen's Story

Ryan's journey with kidney disease began at age 10. His first transplant at 11 lasted seven years. He spent 20 years on hemodialysis and then seven on peritoneal dialysis. Struggling with mental health, he lived on the streets but never missed his treatments. Moving to the Bradford House in Penticton and then Whitehorse to live with his Mom, Carmen, and stepdad Mark, marked his recovery. In 2020, during the pandemic, he received a successful transplant and eventually moved into his apartment. Tragically, in October 2022, a lung infection led to his passing in November.

His mom, Carmen, is a decade-long volunteer with the Kidney Foundation, advocating for those struggling with kidney disease. She has raised $265,000 through the annual Whitehorse Kidney Walk, Kidney March and Kidney Gala. She will share with us the impact that volunteering with the Kidney Foundation has had on her over the years as a caregiver of a child living with kidney disease.

Nich's Story

Meet Nich Persaud, a 51-year-old West Indian man who's had the resilience to navigate life with kidney disease for over 20 years and living with ulcerative colitis since the age of 15. Despite these challenges, Nich has travelled to over 60 countries and lived on five continents, embracing diverse cultures. The proud father of two wonderful boys, 15 and 12, his aim is to show them the world and inspire them to then seek their own adventures.

With a career in travel spanning more than 25 years, Nich has stayed connected to his passion for exploration and has also dedicated 8 years to volunteering as a soccer coach, inspiring the next generation to love the game. No matter the medical hurdles in his way, Nich still possess the curiosity to seek adventures, no matter the obstacle, and looks forward to doing that for many years to come.

Anne's Story

Anne was diagnosed with lupus nephritis on her 21st birthday. For the past 15 years she has been taking daily immunosuppressants to keep lupus flares at bay and to prevent further kidney damage. Her kidney function declined dramatically during Covid, and towards the end of 2023 she started looking for a living donor.

Her diagnosis and chronic kidney disease has not stopped her from living life to the fullest. Armed with a positive outlook and a naturally stubborn nature, she travelled the world for her job in the fashion industry and worked with many colourful people along the way!

As an active member of the community in Whitehorse, Yukon where she now lives with her husband, Anne volunteers her time for a number of events and causes she is passionate about.

Together we can make a real impact. Your ticket isn’t just for a fabulous evening—it’s a way to change lives.
