INTERFAITH ACTION OF GREATER ST. PAUL harnesses the power of thousands of motivated volunteers from diverse faith and spiritual communities to relieve the effects of poverty and address its root causes. With the belief that opportunity grows and poverty recedes when people of faith invest themselves in effective action, Interfaith Action mobilizes diverse faith and spiritual communities to engage in work that supports our neighbors’ stability and economic mobility. The organization’s key programs and activities, providing services to more than 3,000 individuals, are:

  • Project Home, providing emergency overnight shelter and day center support for low-income families with minor children experiencing homelessness. Our rapid exit social work team works with families in shelter transition to more permanent, affordable housing.
  • Department of Indian Work, offering a wide array of welcoming services to low-income American Indian families in the Saint Paul area. Emergency services include a culturally specific food shelf and clothing closet. A culturally specific after-school program and a summer program serves students in kindergarten through 8th grade.
  • Opportunity Saint Paul (OSP) matches dedicated volunteers with partner nonprofit organizations that have proven records of effectively addressing barriers to economic mobility. Volunteers also commit to monthly learning events that build knowledge of the most effective ways to reduce poverty.
  • Community Power-Up provides free legal assistance and practical educational opportunities and resources that help people build economic mobility.
  • Clergy Civic Engagement brings together interfaith clergy for conversations with civic leaders about how to build economic mobility in Greater Saint Paul.
