FAQs

House Tour FAQ

Q: How does the Darien House Tour work?

A: The Darien House Tour involves visiting multiple homes in the Noroton Bay area, to explore their architecture, design, and features. Here's how it works:

  • Ticket Purchase: Participants purchase tickets for the house tour in advance through the “Purchase Tickets” link on this page.

  • Check-in: On the day of the tour, participants check in at the Weed Beach Paddle Hut to receive a map, guidebook, and any necessary instructions. Houses included on the tour will be announced upon arrival.

  • Self-Guided Exploration: Participants visit the homes at their own pace, following the designated route outlined in the map provided. Volunteers will be present at each home to provide information, answer questions, and ensure a smooth experience.

  • Observation: Participants have the opportunity to explore the interior and exterior of each home, taking in the architectural details, interior design, landscaping, and other notable features.

  • Respectful Behavior: Participants are expected to respect the homeowners' property and privacy by refraining from touching items, entering restricted areas, or taking photographs if not permitted.

  • Interaction: Participants will be able to interact with homeowners, architects, designers, or other professionals involved in creating or renovating the homes.

  • Overall, the Darien House Tour offers a unique opportunity to gain inspiration, gather ideas, and appreciate the craftsmanship and creativity showcased in these homes “By the Bay.”

Q: Where should I park?

A: Parking is available at Weed Beach. Please park in designated areas only. Volunteers will be stationed throughout the lot to assist. As spaces are limited, we strongly encourage carpooling with friends. Check-in is at the Paddle Hut at Weed Beach, located on the right-hand side of the road across from the beach pavilion.

Q: What should I wear?

A: We encourage attendees to wear comfortable shoes for walking, making it easier to slip into the “bootie” foot covers required to enter each house. As the event will be held rain or shine, we encourage you to check the weather in advance and plan accordingly. High heels are discouraged and will make walking in the “booties” challenging.

Q: Is there an alternative to walking?

A: Yes. Two 15-passenger vans will circle the house tour loop to provide transportation to those who need it. We encourage walking for those who are able, as it’s a great way to explore the neighborhoods featured.

Q: How does the lunch work?

A: If you selected a catered sandwich or salad box from Palmer’s Market when you purchased a ticket, it will be available to pick up at Weed Beach any time between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. You can stay and eat at one of the Weed Beach picnic tables (based on availability) or take it to go on your way out. Inclement weather will limit the ability to eat at the beach. If you didn’t select a lunch but would like to, you can purchase one through the ticket link until May 24. After that, we will be unable to take additional lunch orders.

Q: Is there a lot of parking available at Weed Beach?

A: Parking at Weed Beach will be limited so carpooling is strongly encouraged.

Q: How long does it take?

A: This is a self-guided tour, so the pace is up to you! We imagine most folks will be able to see everything in 1.5 to 2 hours, but you are welcome to stay longer and enjoy the day!

Q: Do you have to go to every house?

A: No. You’re welcome to view all or whichever ones you’d like to visit. For crowd control purposes, we ask that you follow the assigned route regarding the order in which you see the houses.

Q: Can I purchase tickets on the day of the event?

A: No. The event is SOLD OUT.

Q: Is photography allowed during the house tour?

A: Interior photography is prohibited.

Q: Are the homes on the tour wheelchair accessible?

A: Accessibility varies depending on the individual homes featured on the tour. Please contact the organizers for specific accessibility information.

Q: Can I bring food or drinks on the house tour?

A: Food and drinks are not typically allowed inside the homes on the tour. However, some homes may offer refreshments or have designated areas for snacks. Please adhere to any rules or guidelines provided by the organizers.

Q: Are pets allowed on the house tour?

A: Pets are not allowed on the house tour, with the exception of service animals, to ensure the comfort and safety of all participants and homeowners.
