Mission: AWCMS advances the health of the community through educational and philanthropic works, health advocacy programs, and support of the Washoe County Medical Society (WCMS)
Established April 16, 2018, the goal of the AWCMS Endowment Fund is to address the health needs of the Truckee Meadows now and well into the future by providing critical funding to local non-profit organizations that directly deliver health services and programs to Northern Nevadans.
What is LEAD with Horses?
LEAD with Horses serves the most vulnerable members of our community through the power of horses. We provide safe spaces to create an inclusive, supportive, and empowering environment where people with diverse abilities can experience the emotional, psychological, physical, and social benefits of Equine Assisted Services.
Why Horses?
In today’s world, youth mental health is more important than ever. Many young people struggle to thrive in conventional environments, leaving them without the support they need to navigate emotional and psychological challenges. LEAD provides an innovative alternative—equine-assisted activities that foster resilience, self-confidence, and emotional regulation. Through interactions with horses, participants learn by doing, developing skills that promote personal growth and community connection.
Why AWCMS supports LEAD with Horses
To help meet this growing demand, AWCMS proudly supports LEAD with Horses as it expands to a newly purchased property. This new facility will allow LEAD to extend its reach to more youth in Washoe County and beyond, ensuring that even more children and teens can benefit from their innovative programs. The expansion is crucial for providing access to the transformative power of equine-assisted therapy and education.
The funds raised at the Glitter and Glow Holiday Luncheon will directly support this growth, helping LEAD continue its mission and expand its services. By supporting LEAD with Horses, we are investing in the future of our community, ensuring a brighter and healthier tomorrow for our youth.
