Showers & Flowers Garden Luncheon 2023

Supporting Serenity Hospice & Home

Event Details

100% of proceeds from our "Showers & Flowers Fundraiser" will support Serenity Hospice and Home's integrative therapies. We have a wide array of integrative therapies including massage therapy, aromatherapy, pet therapy, virtual reality therapy, guided meditation, and more. While these services are not covered by Medicare or insurance, they are vital to our patients and their families, helping to alleviate pain and enhance quality of life, without unwanted side effects. Integrative therapies allow patients to remain as alert and oriented as possible to connect with loved ones and make incredible memories on their end-of-life journeys.

Serenity is one of the few hospices in the area willing to accept pediatric patients. We are currently caring for a nine year-old patient named Amelia. She has benefited immensely from our integrative therapies. Cori, our Integrative Therapy Coordinator, has been going to help our CNA, Jen, give Amelia a bath. They have transformed what could be just a mundane, necessary routine into a special and joyful experience. The three of them use the time to “rock out” to Amelia’s favorite tunes by Justin Beiber. Cori plays his song “I am Sorry,” signing along, "apologizing," as she brushes her, lovingly getting the tangles out. Cori searched out and purchased a special brush to make doing her hair as painless as possible. Due to Leukodystrophy, Amelia has lost a lot of her motor control and now only has a limited ability to communicate verbally. She is still fully conscious and able to comprehend everything that is happening. Her mom, Krystle, says Amelia looks forward to Cori and Jen’s visit all week. It makes her so happy to see Amelia smile, her hair up in a lovely French braid.

While indulging in pop hits and having your hair braided is not a defined modality, it definitely IS integrative therapy. Cori has transformed something ordinary into something extraordinarily meaningful, not only bringing joy to Amelia, but also to her family. They will cherish these memories for the rest of their lives, even as they face the heart-wrenching reality of having to say goodbye far too soon. Nothing we do can possibly soothe the pain, grief, and loss. But we can offer support to make sure these final months are lived to their fullest, that beautiful memories are created, and that we provide the practical and emotional support to help the entire family on this difficult journey.

If you are coming to "Showers & Flowers" on Saturday, May 13th, we look forward to seeing you soon! If you are not able to attend this sold out event, but still want to support our vital mission, you can donate on this site or by texting gardenluncheon2023 to 56651. You can also register and purchase a raffle ticket for a chance to win a Virtual Reality Oculus Meta Quest 2 and carrying case. Get started by entering your email or phone number at the top of the page. These raffle tickets are only being sold online through Sunday, May 21st. Thank you to all those who donate, purchase a raffle ticket, and/or help to spread the word! We could not do what we do without your support.

Many of our hospice patients are bedbound. They often have little interaction with nature or the outside world. Imagine a patient in this scenario having the opportunity to take their bucket-list trip to see the Eiffel Tower or sit by the side of a majestic waterfall at dawn, just by putting on the VR Meta Quest 2 Oculus Headset. The advancements in VR technology now allow people to have incredibly realistic experiences. Many research studies have demonstrated that VR can be used to manage pain, anxiety, and distress, enhancing a patient’s sense of peace and well-being. Many integrative therapies that benefit our patients (for example, meditation, aromatherapy, and VR therapy) can really enhance the lives of anyone! To raise awareness of our Virtual Reality (VR) Program, and funds for our integrative therapies, we have decided to raffle off a VR Headset and carrying case. Just register on this site and buy your ticket. We appreciate your support!

Saturday, May 13th, at 11 am, at the Stronghold Brubaker Center in Oregon

Showers & Flowers Garden Luncheon Fundraiser

Sold out!

Please help support our mission of providing the highest quality compassionate care to our terminally ill patients and their families. This year, "Showers & Flowers" is the theme of our event. While we can expect many dreary, drizzly days, the spring rain is necessary to bring the world back to life, to nourish the colorful blossoms that will spread their sweet fragrance as the season turns. Your generous support enables us to provide solace and hope to our patients and their families during one of life's darkest times.

Our elegant Showers & Flowers Fundraiser will feature a silent and live auction. We will have delicious food and appetizers as well as a cash bar. We hope that you will be able to attend, have an amazing time with friends, and support an important cause.
