Hosted by Local Celebrity Chef, Nate Brown

Chef Nate Brown was born in Otisville, MI and moved to Flint at the age of 12 where he attended Flint Public Schools. He is married to JaQuandra Brown and is the proud father of 5 children. Throughout his life, Nate’s mother instilled in him and his siblings the importance of education and while he encountered many hurdles, he persevered, earning both an associate’s and bachelor’s degree in culinary arts. Nate’s mantra is “You too can live a healthy and happy life while manifesting your dreams.” Nate’s decision to focus on healthy cooking was inspired by the physical and mental health challenges he encountered in his mid-30s. Putting in the work, he improved his overall health and permanently eliminated the need for blood pressure medication. To this day, he remains disciplined and strives daily to practice healthy habits. Over the past 16 years, Chef Nate has had an impressive career preparing mouthwatering creations for VIP guests across the country. During his time as Sous Chef at the Henry Ford Museum, Nate collaborated with world-renowned chef, Wolf Gang Puck to prepare a delicious meal for celebrities, Halle Berry, Steven Spielberg, and William Ford Jr. Chef Nate is extremely passionate about empowering children in his community and through a collaboration with the D.R.E.A.M.S. (Developing Respectful Educated Aspiring Minds with Sports) program, he has made it a priority to commit time to providing educational programs that teach youth how to achieve their goals and live a healthy lifestyle through gardening, healthy eating and exercise. In 1990, a Michigan High School art teacher and his wife created a way for his students to raise funds for a food drive. As a class project, students made clay bowls for a fundraising meal. Guests were served a simple meal of soup & bread and were invited to keep the bowl as a reminder of hunger in the world. The following year, the concept developed into Empty Bowls, a project to support food banks, soup kitchens, and other organizations that fight hunger. For the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan and so many other food banks across the country, this has become a signature fundraising event.
