The Red Shoes Gala benefiting FASD United celebrates our fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) community and the field. In 2025, we are honoring 35-years of "Growing in All Conditions". No matter what our organization encounters and works to address, we maximize efforts and have produced novel resources and support. As we look to the future, our goal is not just to survive but to thrive. And we want the same for all the individuals in our community.
FASD affects 1 in 20 in the US, deeply impacting the fields of child welfare, chemical health, justice, policy, health systems, education, and so much more. FASD is a complex issue. The Red Shoes Gala: 35 Years of Growing in All Conditions will highlight how our advocacy reflects nature in its strength, resilience, and variety. This Gala invites you into our rich world of advocacy, which you may realize isn't too different from the one you already inhabit.
The FASD community is human. We share stories, develop ways of resilience, and build systems of interdependence.
Advocacy for FASD is ecological. Our advocacy stems from our relationship with others, and our relationship to our environment.
Held in Washington, D.C. during our national Impact Week, the Red Shoes Gala offers the rare opportunity to gather with experts, policy advocates, organization supporters, and people with living experience — and celebrate our first 35-years, and aspirations for the future.

FASD United is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that for 35 years has been the national hub for the FASD community. Its mission is to empower people living with fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) and prenatal substance exposure to educate systems of care and the public, enact policies, and unite communities everywhere. Involved in the areas of research, support, prevention, policy and justice, FASD United is a connecting silos of care that interact with the FASD community.
In 2013 a FASD self-advocate decided to wear red shoes to stand out, be noticed, and start conversations around FASD. Red shoes have been adopted as an international symbol of FASD advocacy. We invite you to put on your red shoes and join us in a celebration and support of the FASD community and FASD United mission.
