About Edina A Better Chance
Since 1972, the Edina ABC Foundation (“Edina ABC”) has offered an excellent college-preparatory education to outstanding students of color with financial need from around the country. Our scholars are academically talented and highly motivated, but financial barriers prevent them from accessing a rigorous high-school education at home.
Between 6-8 Edina ABC scholars at a time live in a family-like environment in our boarding house in Edina while attending 9th-12th grade at Edina High School, which is a top-rated school both locally and nationally. We provide our scholars with a safe and nurturing home away from home as well as thorough academic and personal support, including in-house tutoring 5 days a week and local host families. Our scholars are excellent students who achieve high marks in challenging academic courses while also participating in many extracurricular and community service activities. 100% of our more than 130 graduates have gone on to college.
Our program is independently funded and operated and our students participate at no cost thanks to the generous support of our donor and volunteer community
Our gala is our single largest fundraising and community event, bringing in 70% of our income each year. We are a lean program with a small budget and every single dollar is meaningful to our students.
