Do you know Con Mi MADRE's story?
The drive behind the founding of Con Mi MADRE stemmed from a statistic that a Latina baby had less than a 1% chance of obtaining a college education. Initially named the Hispanic Mother-Daughter Program (HMDP) in 1992 as a project of the Junior League of Austin, the program set out to create positive change in the lives of young Latinas by empowering them to earn a college education. In 2008, the HDMP transitioned into its own organization, adopting the name Con Mi MADRE, becoming a freestanding and independent 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
About the Corazón Awards
Originally starting as a brunch, the Corazón Awards has turned into a momentous celebratory event. The proceeds from our 14th annual Corazon Awards will benefit our programs that serve our Con Mi MADRE Mother and Daughter teams. This year we celebrate our 15th anniversary as a non-profit, reflecting upon our trajectory and aiming for the future.
Our 2023 Corazón Honorees
Con Mi MADRE's Corazón Awards honors individuals making a significant impact on our organization and the Austin community through individual excellence and high levels of accomplishment. During the Awards ceremony, we will honor three community members.
Stephanie Bergara will be presented with the Con Mi MADRE Award. The Con Mi MADRE Award is presented to an educated, successful Latina living out our mission and serves as a role model for the young Latinas and their mothers in our program.
This year we present Verónica Hinojosa Segura with the Corazón Award. The Corazón Award is presented to leaders or organizations in the community who have made significant contributions to the education and empowerment of Latinas.
Leticia Mendoza will be presented the Mariposa Award. The Mariposa Award is presented to those who have made significant contributions in their field and have brought recognition to Con Mi MADRE through those contributions.
