Our Goal

Did you know?

Nearly 50% of individuals seeking mental health services in our community are unable to receive help because the barriers are too large to overcome

The Movement

California Family Institute is dedicated to bridging the gap for all of those who sought out mental health treatment and did not receive it. We do this by offering an income-based sliding scale where families pay anywhere from $0-$90 per session. Regardless of what they can afford, we promise to help every one who walks through our doors.

"There is nothing more profound than the experience I've had here of helping folks who thought that no help was available to them. And an amazing outcome of this mission has been to watch the clinicians who train here go out into the world and make their own meaningful impact."

-Chris Hoff, Executive Director

"The thing that I've loved most about the type of work we do is that we take the radical position of seeing people as more than just a set of deficits. We see our clients as people with hopes, dreams, desires, and fears."

-Casey Tucker, Trainee

Our Impact

California Family Institute is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides low-cost counseling services for the community, and research and training for mental health professionals. Ten years ago, Chris Hoff, Executive Director, recognized the disturbing state of mental health in our community: a large disparity in access to mental health services, an epidemic of loneliness, rising numbers of deaths of despair, and skyrocketing depression rates in the youth. He realized that the solution would require two important steps: 1) build a clinic whose mission is to expand mental and relational health access in Orange County and beyond, and 2) invest in the future by training effective practitioners with a heart for service in the community.

The mission is simple, but definitely not easy:

Bridge the gap for those who cannot access mental and relational health services in Orange County and beyond
Develop mental health leaders of the future to ensure that disparities in access shrink exponentially
