WHAT IS SYNGAP1:

SYNGAP1-related intellectual disability is a rare neurodevelopmental disorder currently impacting 350 known patients in the United States and 1,055 known patients globally. SYNGAP-1 is due to a random typo in a patient's DNA which results in a 50% deduction of a vital protein required for proper brain development and memory. It is also the cause of all of the symptoms we see in SYNGAP1 patients: intellectual disability, daily seizures, autism, hypotonia (muscle weakness), very limited speech (mostly non-verbal), and severe behavior issues (impulsivity and aggression). As of today, SYNGAP1 has no treatment or cure, and it is our goal to raise funds to accelerate therapies for the condition.

But there is hope! Several institutions and private companies are on the hunt to identify a drug or compound capable of increasing the expression of the working copy of the gene, which would recuse many of the symptoms that challenge SYNGAP1 patients on a daily basis!

OUR MISSION:

The Syngap Research Funds mission is to improve the quality of life of SYNGAP1 patients through the research and development of treatments, therapies, and support systems. Completely parent-led, SRF is the largest non-government funder of SynGAP research with over $2M in grants.  The founders cover all operational costs, allowing 100% of donations to go to research. Syngap Research Fund incorporated in 2018, is a 501(c)(3) public charity. For more information, visit SynGAPResearchFund.org.
