Fund-a-Need: Support our CASA Program!

Each year during our Dine & Unwind fundraiser, the CAN Council highlights a program critically in need of funding for guests to consider supporting.

The year ahead presents a new challenge to our CAN Council: an anticipated shortfall for our Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program. Impending budget cuts to crime victim funding will severely impact this program. Yet the need for these advocates is as great as ever.

Please consider a contribution to help sustain the Bay County CASA Program!

Every abused or neglected child needs a caring, consistent adult to advocate for his or her well-being. And that’s just the role of our CASA volunteers, who devote time to advocate for children who are in the Bay County court system due to abuse or neglect. The CASA is a source of stability to children during a confusing time that no child should ever have to endure. Their objective advocacy complements the efforts of Children’s Protective Service workers and the children’s lawyers. CASA volunteers work with each case until it is closed, and the child or sibling group is placed in a safe, permanent home. For many of these children, their CASA volunteer will be the one constant adult presence in their lives.

To learn more about becoming a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) or additional funding opportunities for the program, please call the CASA Program Director, Katherine Griffiths, at 989-752-7226.
