About Us

Blue Spruce Habitat for Humanity is the local foothills affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. We serve the mountain areas of western Jefferson County, Clear Creek County, and parts of Park County up to Kenosha Pass and assist low-income families in building and buying their own homes.

We are a locally run organization started by twelve volunteers in Evergreen in 1990. Today Blue Spruce has hundreds of volunteers who contribute thousands of hours a year. Like all Habitat affiliates, Blue Spruce is a locally-based organization that depends on local funding and volunteers to build our homes. We also operate our Habitat ReStore in Bergen Park to help fund our program. We have built over forty homes since our inception. Our current homes are being built in Evergreen and Empire, with additional lots in Idaho Springs.

All Habitat homeowners are local residents, living, working, attending church, and having children in school here in our mountain community. They include daycare providers, school bus drivers, waitpersons, housekeepers, carpenters, hospice aides, preschool teachers, and others.

Event Flyer

Blue Spruce Habitat for Humanity (BSHFH) understands that the climate right now is one of uncertainty. We know the need for affordable housing does not stop for COVID-19; in fact, we know that during times of crisis—such as natural disasters, wars, and pandemics—the need only increases. Blue Spruce has participated in the Alternative Gift Fair for many years as always, all proceeds received by BSHFH will go towards building safe and affordable homes in partnership with local families.

  • About the Fair
    •  The event is the result of six local congregations working together in our community. You can see those six congregations listed on www.gifttwice.org
    • The Alternative Gift Fair is a volunteer-run arts and crafts fair where all vendors are representatives of charities and non-profit agencies. The charities receive 100% of the funds from their sales.
    • The Alternative Gift Fair was started 20 years ago as a way to connect people in our community with non-profit organizations doing good around the world. The AGF is a volunteer-run arts and crafts fair where all vendors are representatives of charities and non-profit agencies.
    • Celebrating 20 years of the Alternative Gift Fair
