About Big Sisters

Since 1960 Big Sisters BC Lower Mainland has been igniting the potential of youth through our mentorship programs. Our team of experienced caseworkers expertly matches each youth with a volunteer mentor and fosters a valuable relationship.

With 1 in 10 children in the Lower Mainland not feeling they have a single adult they can count on, our programs provide preventative support that has been proven to increase grades, self-esteem, and success of our youth.   In light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, youth are facing additional stress on their mental health, increased isolation, and setbacks in their education. The relationship that our youth have with their mentors is integral to helping them navigate this challenging time and build resiliency to succeed in their futures.

We have three core programs that support youth.  The Big Sisters one-to-one mentoring program, our Study Buddy program which supports youth through weekly meetups with a volunteer tutor to assist with learning goals and literacy, and our Go Girls after school program which builds self-esteem and confidence in our youth through group programming run by volunteers.
