Why Support the Foundation

The Travis Foundation is committed to investments that deliver long term, positive impact to the entire Travis Elementary community of students, parents, faculty, staff, and administration.

  1. Fund the Future
The Travis Foundation serves as a source of stable, discretionary funding to augment financial support provided through Houston ISD and by the Travis PTA. The Foundation also maintains a capital reserve to ensure stable, predictable, long-term discretionary funding for the school.

  2. STRENGTHEN TRAVIS ELEMENTARY
The Travis Foundation investments strengthen Travis as a leading, innovative learning environment. We fund targeted initiatives and impactful grant requests that enhance school infrastructure, teacher development, and student achievement, and that support the school’s core values.

  3. ENGAGE THE COMMUNITY IN SUPPORT OF TRAVIS
The Travis Foundation aims to foster long-term community support through outreach and engagement.

Funds raised at previous galas have paid for the following:

  • A beautiful, new playground structure in collaboration with the SPARK Foundation, accessible to the public
  • Travis community garden cistern to collect and store rainwater for the purpose of watering the garden beds that grow fruits and vegetables, as well as the wildflowers and small trees
  • “Project Zero Classroom” professional conference at Harvard University
  • “Building Thinking Classrooms” professional math conference in Phoenix, AZ, with founder Peter Liljedahl
  • Nugget couches for improved, more comfortable seating in the library
  • Nugget couches and rugs for grades K-2
  • Books and access to online materials for Handwriting without Tears Program for all 2nd graders
  • Writers in the Schools (WITS) Program for grades 3-5
  • DaCamera Music Encounters for grades 1-2

What's next?  With your help, our hope is that the funds raised at the gala will go towards our beloved Travis Library, which is in desperate need of a major upgrade and remodel.  Our vision includes:

  • removing the carpet (installed in 2005)
  • installing new flooring
  • replacing the broken window coverings
  • purchasing new, comfortable lounge furniture
  • creating cozy, safe reading nooks
  • designing a Makerspace section for robotics, STEM projects, arts and crafts, etc.
  • upgrading technology
  • fresh, welcoming paint
  • sensory panels
  • most importantly, new, updated, and diverse books
  • and so much more!
